Preparing for Coverage Disruptions (OHP/ACA)

📋 Preparing for Coverage Disruptions (OHP/ACA)

For OHP Clients (Oregon Medicaid):

  • Educate on Work Requirements (if implemented):

    • Clarify that exemptions may apply for disability, caregiving, etc.

    • Refer to:

      • Skills Training programs

      • Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)

      • Peer support services as valid activities

  • Support Renewal Compliance:

    • Encourage clients to:

      • Check mail and messages regularly

      • Keep their ONE Account updated (address, phone)

      • Respond to renewal requests immediately

    • Provide a reminder sheet for renewal tracking

For ACA Marketplace Clients:

  • Explain that while you can’t give legal or insurance advice, you can:

    • Encourage them to review their coverage annually

    • Direct them to local health insurance navigators or agents (free services)

    • Suggest they monitor changes to tax credits, premiums, and eligibility rules

    • Emphasize the importance of early open enrollment participation

💬 Client-Facing Message Template

“There are changes happening at the state and federal level that may affect your health coverage. If you are on OHP (Oregon Health Plan), you may be asked to provide proof of renewal or meet new participation requirements. Please make sure your contact information is up to date and check your mail regularly.

If you're unsure what to do, I can refer you to Skills Training, Vocational Rehab, or community resources.

For clients with Marketplace plans (like through Healthcare.gov), now is a good time to stay informed and connect with a free insurance navigator if you get notices about tax credits, coverage limits, or plan changes. I’ll do my best to help you stay supported and connected with care no matter what comes.”
